Nothing can be bigger or more important for you than your health. Health is the biggest wealth that one possesses and therefore, it is your responsibility to take good care of yourself. Apart from taking other cares you should protect yourself by opting for the health insurances too. Whenever you will be ill it is quite obvious to go for the doctor. So, whatever expense occurs can be covered quite well with the help of such health insurances. Hence, there is no loss but your profits only and for that reason only you should look for cheap health insurance policies.
There are certain cheap health insurance plans that are found in the market and you can opt for one by matching your particular criteria. Such budget-friendly policies are Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) and Point-of-Service plans (POSs).
If you opt for the HMOs then you will find it to be quite cheap and hence, affordable for you. There use to be a network of doctors and hospitals in these insurance systems. Each time, whenever you visit a doctor you will not have to pay the whole fees but a very small portion of it and also no need to fill up all those heap of forms. In this plans, whenever you are sick you first have to consult the doctor under the network only. If he refers to other then only you are allowed to approach other doctors.
Another plan is the PPOs where you will have to pay a bit more than the HMOs but are more flexible. For this reason these are widely preferred by people. Here too you will get to consult a network of doctors. However, there is no such restriction in consulting other doctors out of the network in this plan.
The third type of plan is the POSs where the payment is indeed more then the previous two plans but is the most flexible. There too are network of doctors but you are allowed to see any other doctor too. In fact, for such out-of-network doctor visits also you will be reimbursed up to 80%.

How to Get Cheap Health Insurance in California if You're "high Risk"
sorry buddy, I do not believe there is such an animal. I think "cheap health insurance" is about as extinct as dinosaurs. Right now I am paying almost $1000 per month for a family of 5 (actually 4 because my employer supposedly pays mine). The worst part is that the stupid plan isn't worth crap. it just doesn't pay for stuff like I should. I mean d@mnit if I pay 12000/year, I would expect to be able to get something out of that plan, but there are so many loopholes and stuff that I end up paying that and a bunch on top of it.
I could almost buy a car for that much money every year… Insurance companies are the biggest fraud ever passed unto the naive americans. Insurance companies are the DEVIL. We should get rid of all forms of insurance and promote personal responsibility. Yeah, like it used to be you know. You go to the doctor and pay for the services period. If doctors will have to deal directly with real people, they won't be able to charge the insane amounts they charge, because they'll have to look you in the eye.
Only a couple of months ago I hurt myself with an axe. It really wasn't much. They had to do an xray and 6 stitches. and that cost me almost $800. HELLO? 6 freegin stitches and an xray should not cost that much.
Talk with you college there are programs there that can help. When I was in a similar situation I was able to get insurance through my college. It was cheap and much more comprehensive than anything I was able to get later.
For example the University of Wisconsin Madison has the SHIP program for any UW-Madison registered student. It costs $815 for coverage from 1/15 to 8/14 so a little over $100 a month
Good luck

Well, each kid is going to cost you about $150 to $200 per month. As canadian citizens, I don't believe they're eligible for any assistance programs (read, welfare).
You COULD ask your employer to add that cost in.
