Need cheap health insurance to cover you for anywhere from one month to a year? Whether you’re between jobs, going to school, or working without benefits, don’t take the risk of going without health insurance. Instead, find the protection of a temporary health insurance plan.
What about COBRA?
If you’ve been working at a job that offered group health insurance but you’ve been laid off, quit, or fired, COBRA health insurance lets you temporarily remain insured under the group health care policy. Sound good? It can be, especially if you have a pre-existing condition.
With COBRA, you’ll receive the same benefits and coverages you had as an employee. The main disadvantage to COBRA is that you have to pay the insurance premium yourself, instead of your employer paying a portion of it. Therefore, COBRA coverage is usually expensive.
Other Temporary Insurance
Short term or temporary health insurance is an affordable alternative to COBRA coverage. It typically costs less than COBRA and lets you choose any doctor or hospital. It provides the same coverage as other health insurance plans, including:
* Doctor visits
* Inpatient and outpatient treatments and procedures
* Surgeries
* Other hospitalization services
However, pre-existing conditions or preventative care are usually not covered.
Finding Affordable Temporary Health Insurance
Because temporary health insurance plans are typically designed for the unemployed, insurers strive to keep the plans affordable. To find the most affordable plan for you, begin your search by visiting an insurance comparison website. Once there you’ll complete a short form with information about yourself and your insurance needs. You’ll then receive quotes for temporary health insurance plans from multiple A-rated companies.
Some comparison sites even have a chat feature so you can get answers to your questions about temporary health insurance from an insurance professional. (See link below.)

Help answer the question about cheap health insurance
Where can I find basic and cheap health insurance?I am a 25 year old part time college student looking for very basic and cheap health insurance. I had prior insurance under my father’s plan but was dropped when I turned 25. Legally I can elect COBRA continuation coverage but the monthly cost is above what I can afford. I am looking for cheap insurance that would cover doctor visits and prescriptions. I am not very knowledgeable about any of this; any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are many providers of short-term health insurance that would probably meet your needs. I had a great experience with an online provider, Clear Blue Insurance. Great site, really easy to deal with and a good choice of plans.
congrats.. i've been married 3 years now and also have 2 kids from the marriage and it's great.
sorry you have to move away from family though!
for insurance.. see for sure if they don't offer any, but if you want temp. ins. just to be covered right awhile while you sort it all out.. you could get Ameriplan USA.. for basic health it'd be 30 bucks a month for your and your fiancee together!
it's a temp option until you find something through work..
with the car.. you can drive it in another state.. while it still belongs to your dad.. the best idea is to have him sell it to you for a buck.. and then wait till you get to WA before changing everything because you'll have to get new plates new drivers licenese.. and auto insurance..
if you kept it in your dad's name you would have to keep the tx plates.
if you need more info, i'm willing to chat with you! i've moved between 4 different states in the last 3 years..so i'm a pro! My husband worked for menards and got transferred a lot for promotions .. my phone number is at the website under contact info! =0) have a great weekend!
Life Insurance doesn’t prevent death, it just pays the family afterward
Because it's not FAIR, and it treats people like, well, children who can't be responsible for themselves.
AND, once you "require" something, you have to make it purchasable! If you're undergoing chemotherapy, or have AIDS, and require $250,000 of medical/pharmaceutical treatement a year, who exactly is going to sell you a policy for under $20,000 a month? And if you COULD find one, at even half price, how could you PAY for it??
And, if you start excluding those who aren't young, or who aren't healthy, aren't you discriminating against them based on wellness? Keep in mind, America is getting very, very FAT. Over 40% of us are overweight – which automatically makes us NOT HEALTHY. Over 70% of our seniors are seriously overweight – drastically contributing to their health costs.
Bottom line, most people would rather save the $75 a month, or spend it on cigarettes. The average american, is financially "not bright" – as evidenced by everyone signing ARM papers and buying houses they couldn't afford, and not understanding what they were agreeing to. People don't WANT to know about financial tools, like insurance. They look at insurance as "getting my money's worth", and $75 a month, for a healthy person, well, they'd rather spend twice that on cable TV – an immediate gratification thing.
Hospitals don't always TREAT – they're only required to triage, and treat life threatening emergencies – or a woman in active labor. Then they can stabilize and transfer, or refer to somewhere else.
As long as there aren't any serious natural consequences for foolish behavior, as long as we parents keep bailing out our kids, people are NOT going to change their financial habits – buying on credit, overspending, not having an emergency fund – and being under or uninsured. You can't CHANGE that behavior, with a LAW.
Even Massachusetts, that HAS mandatory health insurance, has EXCEPTIONS!! And the fine for not having it, for low income people, is less than a doctor's visit.
Life insurance doesn’t keep people alive, idiot
try Planned Parenthood or a local walk-in medical center.
All the health insurance companies that I know of refuse to cover a condition which exists at the time of taking out the policy.
the life insurance can’t be that good if their spokesman died.
u write too much, it make my head hurt.
Why is it required by law to provide insurance for a vehicle and not a child?
Auto insurance is not a requirement in every state. Mandatory auto insurance laws are passed at state level. There is NO federal mandate on auto insurance. Some states do require health insurance. MA is one of them. Again, it's addressed at state level. Constitutionally, this is as it should be. Health care is not an enumerated right in the Bill of Rights, nor is it a responsibility of the federal government to provide, require or guarantee it. It is a state issue that the fed has no business getting in the middle of.
I'm with you on the responsibility thing. Everyone should put health care ahead of possessions. They don't. But, think about it this way. We've had Medicaid, food stamps and subsidized housing in this country for decades now. As a result we now have whole generations of people who have never seen fit to motivate themselves to do for themselves. As a result, they are dependent on government for their sustenance. Where will we find ourselves in another few generations if we keep adding programs that permit people to behave irresponsibly? It's a slippery slope, and I'd rather not see us slide further into dependency upon government. Nobody should want that. Not in a nation that was built upon the principles of individualism and personal liberty.
