Top 10 Health Insurance Questions and Answers

Top 10 Health Insurance Questions and Answers

Got questions about health insurance? Here are the top 10 health insurance questions and answers:

1. What kinds of health insurance plans are there?

There are two basic types of health insurance plans – indemnity plans and managed health care plans. Indemnity plans let you choose your own physician, while managed health care plans – HMOs, PPOs, and POSs – assign you to a network of physicians and hospitals. Managed health care plans are less flexible, but much cheaper than indemnity plans.

2. What’s an HMO?

With an HMO you pay a monthly premium for which you are assigned to a network of physicians, specialists, and hospitals who provide your medical care. A primary care physician oversees your care and you can only see physicians within your network. Prescriptions may completely covered or partially covered and generally require a co-payment of $5 to $10. This is the cheapest type of health insurance.

3. What’s a PPO?

A PPO is similar to an HMO, but it allows you to visit non-network physicians without a referral from your primary care physician. You may have to pay for the non-network physicians fee, then get partial reimbursement from your PPO provider. Co-payments are generally $5 to $10, and this plan costs a little more than an HMO.

4. What’s a POS?

A POS plan is a combination of an HMO and a POS plan. You choose a primary care physician within your network, but you can also see physicians outside the network. If your primary care physician refers you to an outside physician your POS provider picks up the costs. This is the most flexible and the most costly of the three managed health care plans.

5. What is a deductible?

A deductible is the amount you pay toward a claim before the insurance company pays.

6. What’s coinsurance?

Coinsurance is the percentage of your medical expenses you have to pay after you pay your deductible.

7. What is a co-payment?

A co-payment is the amount you must pay when you visit a physician.

8. How do I choose a health insurance plan?

Ideally, you want to choose a plan that will give you the most amount of benefits for the least amount of money. If you want to continue seeing your current physician, find out what plans he or she is associated with. And if you have special medical needs, make sure the plan you choose will provide for those needs.

Other things to consider when choosing a health insurance plan are:

* What are the co-payments, deductibles, and coinsurances?

* Does the plan cover pre-existing conditions?

* What is the waiting period for pre-existing conditions?

* Will the insurance company give me good service?

9. Where can I get cheap health insurance?

Insurance premiums vary substantially from one company to another, so you want to get quotes from several companies in order to get the best price.

The quickest way to get quotes from different companies is to go to an insurance comparison website. Once there you’ll fill out a short questionnaire, then receive your quotes. The best comparison sites only deal with A-rated insurance companies so you know you’ll be getting a reputable company. They also have an insurance expert on call to answer your questions. 10. How do I know I’m getting a reliable health insurance company?

One of the best places to check out an insurance company is your state’s department of insurance website. You can also visit J.D. Power & Associate’s website (jdpower.com) to get consumer ratings on insurance companies, and A.M. Best’s website (ambest.com) to get financial ratings.

  1. Why do we have to be so pompous as to telling the World that we are number one ?
Nr. 1 in what ? Having messed up the Economy around the World ?

What is so wrong with being humble.

I love this country but not the attitude of some of us. We can get into trouble without inviting it. Remember, for a long time we were called the ugly Americans. Let us not restore such a Title.

I have traveled the World extensively and never found anyone being
nasty to me. Could it be that I was nice and not arrogant ?

  2. very cute! i almost didnt get the first few…had to read over! love these list things!
    thanks!

  3. I can only encourage you. When I was eighteen, I had emergency surgery for a ruptured ovarian cyst. I didn't know I had one until it ruptured. Twenty years later, I have two beautiful children. Just take all the recommendations your Dr.'s give you and research the pro's and con's of all options, then make your decision with your husband. Just remember, your Dr. is the expert on the subject, though we all have a responsibility to ourselves to decide what's in our own best interest. Just try not to worry, as that always skews a person's perspective. Just deal with the facts. You'll be fine!!!

  4. Can we get married and start our own country?!?

I love the illegal immigrant law lol!

I think the welfare program should be as follows:
If you can not find a job in 31 days, and must get federal welfare assistance…you will be put in the millitary! INSTANT JOB, you will earn wages like everyone else, free food, free lodging…no more free money.

I also think we should go back to the medieval laws of cutting off fingers and the whole IF YOU DO IT TO SOMEONE ELSE, IT WILL BE DONE TO YOU thing haha! If you knew you would be shot for shooting someone, that would definitely make you think twice. If you kill someone, you will be killed…no more death row crap, feeding folks for years just so that we can kill them!!! WHAT, hell no…waste money.

  5. Well, i'm not a vet, but my parents both are, so i'll try to answer best i can for them.
    1. My mom sees clients and runs blood tests and prescribes medicines.
My dad does surgery and stuff like that. If you were a receptionist you would enter files about the animals and answer the phones.
And, then the assistants basically assist the vets with whatever they need help with. (holding pets, etc..) They walk the dogs and clean cages mainly.

    2. Refer to question 1

    3. Computers help keep information about clients and their pets.

    4. My parents had to go to college, then pre-vet, then vet school. Basically 8-10 years of schooling. However the receptionists need more of a business degree and the assistants are basically college and high school kids who work part-time.

    5. I'm not sure why they decided to be vets…There are many reasons someone would though. Do NOT become a vet just because you "love animals" It's a very hard job and also if you hate seeing animals die, then you won't last very long in this career field.

    6. My dad loves helping animals. My mom….dunno. Probably the same.

    7. Clean-up and seeing animals die of course.

    8. I think so, because there can never be enough vets. Plus there are tons of different kinds of vets to be and that are needed:
    Small animal (cats and dogs)
    Equine(horses)
    Exotics (rodents, ferrets, rabbits, ect…)
    Higher exotics (wild animals)
    Birds
    Emergency vets

    9. Bosses – top level once you make it, but as you start out it would be very low.
    Receptionists – mid-level
    Assistants – low-mid
Agian, it really depends on where you work, and what you do.

    10. health insurance? yes
    dental insurance? i think so
    life insurance? yes
    bonuses? i think so
    overtime? yes
    paid holidays? ..yes
    paid vacations? with time, yes
    On site child care? depends
profit sharing? i don't think so

    11. depends

    12. long periods of sitting? NO
    long periods of standing? yes
    some lifting? YES
    climbing? not really
walk or be able to move around? Absolutely, except receptionists
stoop, bend, or kneel regularly? Definitely
regular lifting of 50+ pounds? YES

    13. indoor work? yes
    outdoor work? yes
    cold working environment? in winter
    warm working environment? in summer
wet, humid environment? where we live, yes
    noisy environment? YES
    hazards? sometimes, i suppose

    I hope I helped!!!

Edit – Hey! My dad's name is Dr. Steve Smelley :)

  6. I am assuming this money was a Roth IRA from the beginning.

You can withdraw that money. The bank can't hold it hostage until you have consulted with an advisor.

What will happen is that the bank will issue you a Form 1099R early next year. It will be coded as an early Roth distribution. Your original contribution will not be taxed, so you have to know the amount you originally invested, not necessarily the amount of the CD.

Any earnings from the time you started the original Roth IRA will be taxed. If your earnings are $200 and your tax bracket is 15%, your additional tax is $30. In addition you will be assessed a 10% penalty of $20.

If your investment from the beginning has lost money, you will owe no tax.

The above transaction will not appear on your 2008 tax return, but on your 2009 tax return.

When you moved your money from your original account to the bank, you had a reportable event for your 2008 tax return. The original account trustee will issue you a 1099R which will be coded as a rollover. You should enter this into your tax return. No tax will be owed.

I agree with the other answerer that you may not have originally had a Roth IRA at work. A tax preparer can figure this out if you take the 1099R you receive to the preparer. If you rolled over a different investment to a Roth IRA you might owe some tax on your 2008 tax return.

  7. Heal care is a pressing issue in today's politics. McCain's plan was actually feasible. Obama's plan was, and still is, not.

  8. Cant say I have;(

    Hope I helped
