You realize the government only pays 65% for the first six months, right? After that, you're on the hook for the full amount.

Yes, he could keep the cobra at the "low" rate during the first six months, but then he'd have to pay the full rate, until open enrollment comes around – whenever that is.

It will be difficult to get insurance for asthma meds now that you have the condition. The best way is to work somewhere with a good group insurance. I realize that may not be possible for you.

Another alternative is to try Ontario's Trillium program:

"The Trillium Drug Program (TDP) is intended for Ontario residents who have a valid Ontario Health Card and who have high prescription drug costs in relation to their net household income.

The TDP provides coverage for prescription drug products listed on the Ontario Drug Benefit Formulary/Comparative Drug Index (Formulary) "

If only people could relate what happened to our educational system after the govt installed the Dept of Education to the complete takeover of health care, many eyes would be opened to the dangers.

And to think… the Dept of Education only meddled in the private markets' affairs on a smaller scale, and look at what it did.

Obamacare will wreck our economy without a doubt.

Believe it or not, there is at least one group that has pooled it's resources to do this. They aren't a genuine insurance company, but members do send in monthly amounts to help with keeping it going as well as contributions to help some who are going through Cancer, surgeries, etc. It is a more personal service, and I've read testimonials of people who were supported both in finances and compassion. Sounded interesting, I just never had the money for that or for insurance. And for what it's worth, I strongly disagree that we each have some inherent "right" to being insured, and yes, I suffer severe medical problems. I don't expect my Government to automatically insure all of us who can't afford it. The entire medical care industry in this nation is going to self-destruct because of how it's set up-it's just a matter of time. I have learned to be pro-active with my own health care, done the research, and treated some severe "untreatable" (with mainstream medicine) conditions with fabulous results. When you are motivated, it is amazing to discover the research done in Europe and other countries on plant and other matter in it's whole form. You get the science with no side-effects and no AMA or drug companies to patent/regulate/price it out of reach.

FACT – the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet.

FACT – the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage.

That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage.
