How about home owners insurance reform? After all, there are lots of people in America who do not have home owners insurance. The vast majority of those are currently living in cramped apartments, living with friends/relatives, or are homeless. Maybe Obama could buy everyone in America a house who does not currently own one. That would completely fix the housing crisis. Then all of those folks would need Government supplied home owner insurance. Allstate and State Farm would be really appreciative of that move and might even chip in more money for Obama's reelection campaign.

After that, what about car insurance reform? There are lots of people in America who don't have car insurance. Wouldn't that be a good thing? Of course, some of those people are too cheap to buy car insurance and assume they will never need it, others can afford a car but not insurance for it, and then others don't have a car to begin with. The Government could buy everyone currently living without a car a brand new one thus solving the automobile crisis. The official Obama plan, as outlined in his campaign booklet, Blueprint for Change, calls for greater use of drug courts, job training for ex-offenders, and the elimination of sentencing disparities like the crack/powdered cocaine inequities. He does not favor lowering the current drinking age from 21 to 18, despite a collective push to do so by dozens of university presidents.

In an AP report posted at Drug WarRant, Obama said, “I’m not interested in legalizing drugs.” His focus, he said, was on emphasizing the public health approach to drugs over the prison approach. “All we do is give them a master’s degree in criminology.”

In a speech at Howard University, he told the crowd that “it’s time to take a hard look at the wisdom of locking up some first-time, non-violent drug users for decades…. There is much debate about the type of insurance proposals that will be required in the new health system currently being negotiated in Congress. President Obama has just come out in support of a public health plan, which is opposed by private insurers who say that they could not compete with a public health plan that didn’t have to make a profit. Opponents argue that private health plans would go out of business, leaving only an entirely government-run health care system.

The goals of overhauling the health care system are to lower costs and extend care to the uninsured. Obama wants a bill on his desk in October at the latest. Where can Congress begin to compromise, and why is it that Republicans in particular, believe that public health plans are likely to be so dreadful. What is the evidence for this belief beyond their own philospophical ideas. Guaranteed – Why Obama’s plan will not work

I already discussed economist Paul Krugman’s statement that Obama’s plan leaves 15,000,000 US citizens lacking cheap medicare. The thing is, I believe Krugman is wrong . Krugman is too optimistic. My analysis is that Obama’s plan leaves most Americans uninsured in the final analysis. And here is why :

His plan relies on people voluntarily purchasing medical insurance or signing up for public health programs to receive health care. First is a remit that health insurers must accept all comers, regardless of how well or how sick they are. 2nd is that insurers must cover established conditions.
>okay, so here is a question : with a remit like these, why would anybody voluntarily join healthcare insurance *before* they got sick? I mean, health care insurance is expensive, right? So then the healthcare death spiral that I discussed back in September 2007 kicks in. As healthy people opt out of paying for medicare, that means the remaining folk end up paying more, which causes more folk to drop out, which causes health care insurance to become dearer, and then yet more people drop out. The end result is that only sick people end up paying for medicare — which isn’t a usable choice, because the small proportion of sick folk simply cannot pay for current levels of medicare. There just ain’t no’there’ there.
in brief without a remit that healthy people subsidize the care of sick folk, there’s no universal medicare, just a large amount of dead sick folk. When I’m employed the numbers, Obama’s plan simply doesn’t work — the health insurance death spiral gets even worse.
The point I’ve been making all along, is that unless *everybody* is needed to participate either via purchasing private insurance or participating in a public program ( and remember, at least 5,000,000 of the uninsured *CURRENTLY QUALIFY FOR PUBLIC INSURANCE PROGRAMS*, they’ve just never gotten around to signing up ), we end up with a system where only sick people pay — and, in the end, with lots of dead folks. Krugman is an optimist. I’m not. I see a whole lot more, if Obama’s plan were passed as-is — which, naturally, it won’t be, since as a plan this would have such horrific effects that when the CBO works the numbers the entire Congress would flinch in horror and send it to the shredder.
