Life insurance is one of life’s major decisions, often likened to a precious and lasting gift for one’s family. Despite the importance of this heartfelt gift, there are a few things about life insurance that few are aware of. Here is a list of the most important things that you should know about life insurance.

Everyone needs life insurance
Life insurance is not just for the chief breadwinner of the family. If someone depends on you financially or otherwise, then you need life insurance. A stay at home parent, or even a parent who does not contribute significantly to the household finances needs insurance too. They provide their families with ‘free’ services like cooking, cleaning, childcare and driving the kids around. In the their absence, the family would need extra income to pay for these services.
Young, single people are the most prone to thinking that they don’t need life insurance. But they do. Age is an important criterion in deciding life insurance premium amounts, and young people usually receive the best life insurance rates. When they do feel the need for life insurance later in life, they might not be eligible for cheap life insurance. Health conditions would have set in, preventing them from qualifying for the best life insurance rates. Single people think they don’t need life insurance but there is a chance that they won’t remain single forever. When they do have dependants, they may not be able to qualify for the same life insurance premium rates as now. Also, even if they don’t have anyone to leave money to, when they die there would be a few expenses – funeral expenses, unpaid mortgage amounts, loans are a few examples. In the absence of a life insurance policy, their aging parents or other siblings would have to attend to these payments.

Purchase a policy that will provide adequate coverage for your beneficiary
Most people don’t bother about working out the correct amount of coverage. Remember, with inflation your money may not really help your family meet all their financial obligations. On the other hand too much life insurance is also unnecessary, as you would end up paying extra premium amounts that you can invest or save.
So just how much coverage is enough? For the breadwinner of a family the rule of thumb recommended by experts is 10 – 15 times your current income. If you are a stay at home parent or care-giver, you can work out the values of each service you provide for the family, and factor inflation into the calculation so that your family is left with enough to pay for these services, in the event that you die. There are also several online calculators available on life insurance websites, and they can be quite accurate as they take inflation and your other investments into consideration.

Good health is a reason to rejoice, but bad health doesn’t mean you should stop looking at life insurance options.
When people have bad health, they assume that their premiums will be exorbitant, and they can invest the same money elsewhere. However, there are life insurance carriers out there who look more favorably on certain health conditions than others. How will you find them? The easiest avenue is to go online and get quotes on a reliable life insurance website. Smokers are usually bracketed high risk and are offered policies at high premiums. But many smokers do not know that if they remain smoke free for a period from 1 year to 5 years (depending on the insurance carrier’s rules), they can qualify for non-smokers policies.
However, this does not mean that your life insurance premiums will be as cheap as that offered for individuals who are in excellent health. Many contributors to major illnesses of today are controllable with the right diet and a healthy lifestyle. Improving your health is your ticket to affordable premiums.

Review your life insurance policy periodically
Life’s situations change often and this demands that your policy is reviewed often too. Marriage, a new baby, when seniors move in and become your dependants, a promotion or crisis in the work place, buying a house and medical problems are a few instances when life insurance policies need to be reviewed. Reviewing is important because it helps you buff up or trim down the amount of life insurance you need. e.g., when you have a young family, you have more liabilities and expenses. As you age, and your kids get jobs, you can trim down your coverage amount. Sometimes you may find out that there are other companies offering better rates. Reviewing your policy often will make sure that you have adequate levels of life insurance.

Shop around for life insurance policies for the most affordable policy that provides the maximum benefits.
Just like every other major buying decision, shopping around for life insurance is a great way to get the most affordable policy. Term life insurance policies especially can be bought online at very economical premiums. Online life insurance agencies can offer you the best rates because they deal with hundreds of life insurance companies. They can run your details through the requirements of these companies and offer you quotes in seconds. They are also a great way to compare the intricacies of various life insurance policies as they offer detailed comparison charts on each policy.

The importance of life insurance can never be emphasized too much. An uncertain economic situation and hard times are all the more reason to cover your family, and make them comfortable even when you are no longer around to look after them. If you don’t have life insurance yet, the best time to get it is now. As time goes by, it may be either too late to get life insurance or just too late to obtain it an affordable rate.

Rep. Paul Broun [R-GA10] is asked a direct question from Athens, GA constituent Ryan Lewis concerning health care reform. Broun walks away as he cannot answer. Video shot by Gordon Lamb. (September 8, 2009, Oconee County Civic Center, Oconee County, GA) Transcript: Lewis: Dr Broun, can I ask you a very quick question? Broun: Very quickly Lewis: Well, I was raising my hand the whole time, there’s something I wanted to bring up which is the issue of the under… underinsured. I pay $200 a month for my wife and I to have health insurance and um for (clearly I meant in) the last 2 years I’ve passed 12 kidney stones. 12 kidney stones! With no medical attention because I can’t get it covered because I have catastrophic insurance with a $200 dollar deductible, *laughs* I mean a $20000 deductible. Lewis: So me paying $200 a month is all I can afford to pay for health insurance, so if you could tell me -? just very quickly – how your plan will make it so we can address that issue because everything you said didn’t involve the government at all being involved in trying to stop the profit based, profit motivated system. Broun [interrupting]: We need to make… we need to make insurance affordable to you sir… Lewis [interrupting]: Right… Broun [interrupting]: So that you can… Lewis: Right, right well how do we do that? How do we do that? Broun: Well by expanding health savings accounts and that so… Lewis [interrupting]: No, no, no, I HAD a health savings account actually and …
Help answer the question about why you need insurance?
Why does a Doctor need proof of income if you have health insurance?
I'm going to the Dr. for a physical and they need proof of income (pay stub) even though I have health insurance. WHY?

Unprecedented attention given to tourism industry together with the availability of low cost flight has highly popularised travelling all over the world. With new exotic locations coming into the limelight, tourists are in a rush to take the delight of holidaying in a hitherto uncharted zone. And to make them better equipped against any kind of unforeseen mishap, tourists prefer to buy Travel insurance.

It is true that travelling is sometimes sheer fun and sometimes education through entertainment. This, however, does not mean that the way of holidaying, particularly in exotic locations, is free from any kind of risks and hassles. There are risks of trip cancellation, flight delay, losing luggage and physical injury etc. Unless there is a policy of travel insure already in place, it may cost the traveller a good deal of money.

By purchasing an insurance policy that covers all the probable mishaps one may meet during the time of holidaying, he can keep himself guarded and protected. Though there is no way to avoid unexpected accidents, one can recover the losses caused by unforeseen disasters. Small payments on every month or on every quarter of a year prove to be a highly profitable investment during the hour of need.

One should be a little careful about buying Travel Insurance. The insurance market has become quite competitive and at the same time a little unscrupulous too. Some agencies are there who will just try to push a policy without paying any heed to the requirement of the insured.

In your effort to avoid pushing travel insurance policies, you can take help of the experts who are willing to share their knowledge. They are plenty in the Internet. You can read the articles, blogs and join forums to acquire knowledge and collect information. Once you are confident enough, you can purchase the policy that you think will be the best.

What is Insurance ?

By entering into contract the Insurance company agrees to pay the Policy holder or his family members a predetermined sum of money in case of any unfortunate event for a predetermined fixed sum payable which is in normal term called Insurance Premiums.
Which Life Insurance is best for me?

Why buy life insurance?

Many financial experts consider life insurance to be the cornerstone of sound financial planning. It is generally a cost-effective way to provide for your loved ones after you are gone. It can be an important tool in the following ways:

    1. Income replacement
For most people, their key economic asset is their ability to earn a living. If you have dependents, then you need to consider what would happen to them if they no longer have your income to rely on. Proceeds from a life insurance policy can help supplement retirement income. This can be especially useful if the benefits of your surviving spouse or domestic partner will be reduced after your death.

    2. Pay outstanding debts and long-term obligations
Consider life insurance so that your loved ones have the money to offset burial costs, credit card debts and medical expenses not covered by health insurance. In addition, life insurance can be used to pay off the mortgage, supplement retirement savings and help pay college tuition.

    3. Estate planning
The proceeds of a life insurance policy can be structured to pay estate taxes so that your heirs will not have to liquidate other assets.

    4. Charitable contributions
If you have a favorite charity, you can designate some of the proceeds from your life insurance to go to this organization.

How much life insurance do I need?

To decide how much life insurance to buy, you need to first figure out what your goals are in purchasing this coverage. Ask yourself the following:

Do I want to spare my loved ones funeral costs and outstanding debts?

Am I concerned that my spouse or domestic partner will not be able to continue to pay off the mortgage if I die suddenly?

Do I have dependents who count on my income?

Am I concerned about college savings for my children or retirement savings for my spouse if I die suddenly?

While all situations are different, here are two scenarios to help you think through the questions you should pose to your insurance professional:

Dependents

If you have children, a spouse who does not work outside the home or aging parents who you financially support, you have dependents. Alternatively, you may simply have a spouse or domestic partner who would be unable to pay the mortgage without your financial contribution. In either case, your loved ones will no longer have your income to help them pay the bills and maintain their lifestyle after you are gone. You will have to purchase enough insurance to provide for their future, while considering how much of your budget should be devoted to life insurance.

Some insurance experts suggest that you purchase five to eight times your current income. While this may be a good way to begin estimating your family’s needs, you will also need to figure how much your dependents will need to pay for some or all the following:

Cost of owning a home (mortgage, maintenance, insurance, taxes and utilities)

College savings

Food, clothing, utilities

Child care

Nursing home or elder care

Retirement savings

Funeral expenses and estate taxes

Your family may also need extra money to make some changes after you die. They may want to relocate or your spouse may need to go back to school to be in a better position to help support the family.

No dependents

If you are young and plan to have a family in the future, you may also want to consider purchasing life insurance now so that you can lock in a good rate.

Just because you don’t have dependents, does not mean you don’t have responsibilities. For instance, you may be concerned with not being an economic burden to others if you die unexpectedly. You may also want to leave some money behind to close family, friends or a special charity as a remembrance. In this case, you should purchase enough coverage to pay funeral and burial expenses, outstanding debts and tax liabilities, so that the bulk of your estate goes to your family, friends or charities.

Your insurance needs will vary greatly according to your financial assets and liabilities, income potential and level of expenses.

Types of Life Insurance Policies:

Term Insurance

Term Insurance is the simplest form of life insurance. It provides financial protection for a specific time, usually from one to 30 years. These policies are relatively inexpensive and are well suited for goals, such as insurance protection during the child-raising years or while paying off a mortgage. They provide a death benefit, but do not offer cash savings.

Purchasing term insurance is like renting a home. It is a short-term solution. Monthly costs are usually lower, but you will not be building equity. Just as many people rent (while saving to buy a home), individuals who need insurance protection now, but have limited resources, may purchase term coverage and then switch to permanent protection. Others may view term insurance as a cost-effective way to protect their family and still have money to put into other investments.

Tip: Buy term insurance if you are looking for the least expensive way to protect your family during your peak earning years (i.e. until the children are grown, and the Mortgage on the home is paid off).

ROP Term (Return of Premium) Insurance

ROP (Return of Premium) Term is term insurance with a twist. At the end of the term of the insurance policy you will receive back 100% of the premiums that you paid throughout the term of the policy. This hybrid, has recently become popular, and costs more than pure term, but less than whole life.

Tip: When buying ROP term insurance, keep in mind that the return of your payments that you will get back at the end of the ROP term, will be highly depreciated due to inflation. But if your budget permits paying the higher premium over pure term, it may still be a better alternative for you.

Whole Life or Permanent Insurance:

Permanent insurance (such as universal life, variable universal life and whole life) provides long-term financial protection. These policies include both a death benefit and, in some cases, cash savings. Because of the savings element, premiums tend to be higher. This type of insurance is good for long-range financial goals.

Purchasing permanent insurance is like buying a home instead of renting. You are taking care of long-term housing needs with a long-term solution. Your monthly costs may be higher than if you rent, but your payments will build equity over time. If you purchase permanent insurance, your premiums will pay a death benefit and may also build cash value that can be accessed in the future.

Another advantage of certain whole life policies is that before you purchase the policy, you will know what your cash value accumulation will be, at a specific time in the future. This is called Guaranteed Whole life, and it is a great advantage for those who want, or need a specific accumulation at a specific time in the future. This makes Whole life insurance a great financial planning and estate planning vehicle.

Tip: Whole life is ideal for those with above average and steady income, and accumulated wealth who can benefit from the proceeds of the policy upon their death, helping their heirs to pay off any outstanding debts or estate taxes (if applicable), without having to liquidate any existing assets to pay off taxes, debts, or estate settlement charges.

How often should I review my policy?

You should review all of your insurance needs at least once a year. If you have a major life change, you should contact your insurance agent or company representative. The change in your life may have a significant impact on your insurance needs. Life changes may include:

Marriage or divorce

A child or grandchild who is born or adopted

Significant changes in your health or that of your spouse/domestic partner

Taking on the financial responsibility of an aging parent

Purchasing a new home

Refinancing your home

Coming into an inheritance

Insurance is just a fact of life in American society (and probably most other places too). Some studies show that Americans spend almost 15% of their disposable income on insurance alone. Sometimes they are certain insurances you just can’t get out of buying, for instance you are required by law to carry it; such as car insurance.

But there is some insurance that you just shouldn’t buy no matter what, and that’s what I am going to talk about in this article today.

Sure, we all need insurance. If you’ve got a house mortgage, you need homeowners insurance. If you own a car, you need auto insurance. If you have a family that depends on your income, then you need life insurance to look after them if anything catastrophic happens to you like death. And everybody should have health insurance of some kind.

But there are many kinds of insurances being marketed today that you just don’t need, and many times these specific insurances are the ones that really get pushed on people because they don’t really know enough about it to make an informed decision; and salesmen can be pushy.

One type of insurance that you should not usually buy is automobile medical insurance. If you have regular health insurance, it will usually cover any health expenses that arise out of automobile accidents so you don’t need additional special medical car insurance in most cases.

Another type of insurance that you don’t need is mortgage insurance. I’m not talking about homeowners insurance, you need that… I’m talking about mortgage insurance; that is insurance to protect your family against the consequences of not being able to pay the mortgage should you die. Your regular life insurance should cover this adequately on its own, which is the main reason why you have life-insurance to begin with.

Air travel insurance is another type of insurance that you really shouldn’t purchase. Yes, it’s usually very cheap sometimes as little as $10 per flight. But again, if you die in an airplane crash your regular life insurance should cover your family’s immediate needs.

Cancer insurance is another insurance that you may not need. Again, your regular health insurance should cover this and you don’t need any kind of special addition in most cases..

Vacation rain insurance is another type of insurance that you probably don’t need. Insurance companies make these policies based on incredibly accurate meteorological data, and they’re not in the business of throwing their money away which means that they’re not going to insure you unless they’ve got a pretty good idea that it’s not going to rain; which means you probably won’t collect. But again, these aren’t very expensive policies so suit yourself.

These are just a few of the types of insurance policies that you should not waste your money on. Of course, as a disclaimer, everybody is different, and everybody’s circumstances are different so don’t take my advice, make up your own mind.

The Drudge Report by Anne E. Kornblut CHARLOTTE – Even by President Obama’s loquacious standards, an answer he gave here on health care Friday was a doozy. Toward the end of a question-and-answer session with workers at an advanced battery technology manufacturer, a woman named Doris stood to ask the president whether it was a “wise decision to add more taxes to us with the health care” package. “We are over-taxed as it is,” Doris said bluntly. Obama started out feisty. “Well, let’s talk about that, because this is an area where there’s been just a whole lot of misinformation, and I’m going to have to work hard over the next several months to clean up a lot of the misapprehensions that people have,” the president said. He then spent the next 17 minutes and 12 seconds lulling the crowd into a daze. His discursive answer – more than 2500 words long — wandered from topic to topic, including commentary on the deficit, pay-as-you-go rules passed by Congress, Congressional Budget Office reports on Medicare waste, COBRA coverage, the Recovery Act and Federal Medical Assistance Percentages (he referred to this last item by its inside-the-Beltway name, “F-Map”). He talked about the notion of eliminating foreign aid (not worth it, he said). He invoked Warren Buffett, earmarks and the payroll tax that funds Medicare (referring to it, in fluent Washington lingo, as “FICA”). Always fond of lists, Obama ticked off his approach to health care — twice. “Number one is that we are the …
Help answer the question about why you need insurance?
What kind(s) of insurance does an amusement park need and why?
Please be as detailed as you can.

There are so many vehicles on road these days. With increasing amount of road mishaps, the requirement of auto insurance is increasing. Also now it is mandatory by law that every vehicle that comes on road should be insured. Some laws make rule that liability coverage should be included in your policy. By some states uninsured motorist coverage or underinsured motorist coverage is compulsory.

With so many insurance providers coming up in market it becomes difficult to choose the best one. All the companies have different types of polices. Now days you have various options to choose from so you can design the policy like you want it to be. You can choose the premium charges and also the types of coverage you need. But you must shop wisely for your insurance policy like you shop for other things. It is very much possible to get an affordable auto insurance. You just need to find a right and cheap quote. These car insurance quotes are easily available online. Cheap auto insurance quotes are easy to compare. You can see for the policy that is cheapest of all, fits in your budget and with all this meets your need also. If the policy covers all your requirements apart from being cheap then it is the best policy for you.

There are many other ways to make your policy cheaper. You can club your policy with your parent’s car insurance policy if you are a young driver. This will help you save some money. You can also club your other insurance policies like health insurance, home insurance, etc. so that you can enjoy extra benefits. If you approach a company with which you have been dealing since long for your insurance policy then you may be lucky to get some discounts on your policy. Then the amount of deductible is also very important. If you choose a policy that has high deductible then the amount of the premiums would be less and if the deductible amount is low then the policy charges would be high.

You must remember that while finding a cheap policy you don’t forget about the company that you are insuring with. A good company is very important. You don’t want that the company you insured with is going bankrupt and putting you in losses. Therefore research properly and look for various things like rating and market value of the company.
